Jay – Peak Aerial Tramway – Jay, Vermont

Jay -  Peak Aerial Tramway – Jay, Vermont

The tramway is one of Vermont’s most exciting and beautiful scenic rides.  Whether you are taking it in the summer and seeing the beautiful green countryside or in the winter when the slopes are showing you a beautiful picture of snow just waiting for you to grab your skis or board and challenge the mountains!  You will see 4 states and the Provence of Quebec from the 4,000 foot summit.  It only takes 10 minutes to ride to the top but in that time you go from the stress of the “real” world to the joy of the mountain.

The Glades is an arena of skiing that many “off trail” skiers have enjoyed for years.  The natural snow overwhelms this area of Vermont making it a woodskier’s dream.  There are 24 glades for the tree skiers to enjoy.  There may be more added in the years to come but for now, there are 24.

During the summer this is a great place to backpack but be sure to follow safety procedures while you are hiking.  You can also ski in the Backcountry too, just make sure that you are an experienced skier, have a party of at least 3 people going at the same time so that if someone gets hurt, which can certainly happen, you have one person going for help and one staying with the injured person.  You aren’t to go our in the backcountry after 3 pm.  It doesn’t get checked and getting lost out there isn’t a great feeling and having to spend the night is something you really don’t want to do.  Have a meet up spot selected with your team at the bottom of the hill so that if someone doesn’t show up you can get help.  With this type of skiing wear a helmet.  Although it isn’t required, it’s smart.  There are signs out there, read them!

Try a Snowshoe Tour for something different.  They run Wednesday at 6 PM and Saturdays at 4 PM.  The cost is $20 for adults (15+) and $10 for Juniors (8-14).  This includes a 2 hour guided tour, snowshoe rental, and a complimentary hot cocoa.

There is a golf course for your summer enjoyment.  Imagine golfing in this beautiful area and you will want to make sure you come to visit in the summer as well as for skiing in the winter!

There will also be a Water Park for your enjoyment.  The 50,000 sq ft waterpark is scheduled to open in 2012.  It will be open year around with lots of exciting new features for you to enjoy so check with them as the date gets closer.

There is also an Ice Haus Arena for you to enjoy when you aren’t on the slopes.  You can even get lessons if you want, or need them.
