Montshire Museum of Science - Norwich, Vermont

The Montshire Museum of Science is a Great Place to Learn and Have Fun. Located in Norwich, Vermont, the Montshire Museum of Science is one of the premier hands-on museums in the state. The museum, which opened in 1974, sits on a 110-acre piece of property near the Connecticut River.

The museum offers a number of fun and interesting exhibits that are sure to thrill both kids and adults alike. The museum has both an indoor and an outdoor area, making it a unique experience.

The different exhibits encompass a variety of natural, technological, and scientific areas. Each of the following areas has a number of hands-on exhibits within them: Air & Weather, Astronomy, Light & Vision, Live Animals, Math, Mechanics & Motion, Natural History & the Environment, Sound, and Water & Flow.

In Air & Weather, you can learn about air pressure and see the way air moves as fog creeps through a model village. The Astronomy area has a large globe that recreates the way light and shadow fall on the earth due to the sun, and you can observe how a sundial works.

Light & Vision is a popular area. It has quite a few optical illusions, such as the anti-gravity mirror. In the Live Animals section, guests can see fish, frogs, turtles, insects, and more.

Visitors who check out the Math, Mechanics & Motion exhibits will be able to see for themselves just how much energy it takes to raise an elevator a single floor, as well as learn about gears, gravity, and a whole lot more. The Natural History area offers information on some of the animals that live in the North woods.

The Sound exhibits explain how sound reaches a person's ears. You can play with a humming stone, a singing stone, whisper tubes, and a lot more. In Water & Flow, you can learn about water pressure, dams, bubbles, and see other interesting exhibits.

One of the special exhibits at the museum is the Crime Lab. Here, kids can learn a bit about the jobs of investigators and forensic scientists. They get to explore a "crime scene," examine evidence, and see if they can deduce which suspect was the one who actually committed the crime.

In addition to all of the great exhibits, you will be able to find a number of great walking trails. Some of the popular trails include the Forest Trail, the Meadow, the Overlook Trail, and Ridge Trail. You should definitely bring your hiking shoes!
