Putney Transition Tour – Putney, Vermont

Putney, Vermont is located 2.5 hours from Boston. This small town has been preparing to live as an energy- and food-independent community. They are actively honoring the Earth, learning new and old ways to connect with our natural surroundings. The town is home to a hotbed of activism, small organic farms, environmental mindfulness and sustainable practices.

Putney was settled in 1753.  It is home to writers, artists and crafts people who find inspiration and support.  The small town of just over 2,500 people has many things for you to see from potters work to other arts.  Not only will you be able to see the arts but you can even buy maple syrup along with other maple products right there in Putney.

.The tour is a window into Southern Vermont’s rural life style. Beginning Friday evening, March 23 and lasting through Sunday, March 25th, 2012 there will be a tour offering numerous farm tours, workshops and speakers. Transportation to and from Cambridge Mass, all meals and lodging. There are also day rates available. Space is limited.  Hopefully you will be able to make the tour but if not, be sure to stop in and visit this unique community, talk to the people, drive around and see all there is to offer.

While in the community you will be able to see farmers raising chickens, see a raw milk dairy, and learn about a sustainable community.  Ask the people about rejuvenating with herbs, bread making, building with hemp, learn about their economic co-op movement.  This will give you a sneak peek into Vermont’s rural life.

If you make the tour you will be staying at the Putney Inn.  The Van leaves from Harvard Square Commons Friday on March 23 at 5:30 pm and returns Sunday March 25 arriving at Harvard Square at 3:30 pm.

If you don’t make the tour, come on your own and see this charming community and learn what it has to offer.
